Join The British-American Business Council of North Carolina and the World Affairs Council of Charlotte  for lunch on Thursday, April 21st, 2011!

SPEAKER: Sir Eldon Griffiths

Educated at Cambridge and Yale, Eldon Griffiths served as a speech writer for two British Prime Ministers, before being elected  as Member of Parliament for Bury St Edmund's, a safe Conservative seat in the British Parliament. He represented his government at conferences in Brussels, Washington and Moscow, before being appointed by Margaret Thatcher as her party's spokesman on Europe.  Eldon began his career as Time magazine foreign correspondent and foreign editor for Newsweek, he reported on crises in  Eastern Europe and the Middle East.

 

He is widely known within the World Affairs Council network. He was National Chairman of the World Affairs Council of America (WACA) and continues to support WACA to promote international  education, and engaged dialogue on world affairs. Founding Director of the International Business Center at  Chapman  University.

 

PRESENTATION:

  • He will talk about PLUSSES and MINUSES OF MONARCHY AS A SYSTEM OF GOVERNMENT; comparisons of British and American forms of democracy.
  • Let’s not forget the royal wedding!  Eldon will share his personal insights into the Royal  family, and the upcoming nuptials between Prince William and Catherine Middleton on April 29th.
  • Some years ago Eldon was received by Colonel Moammar Gadafi at his Tripoli residence, and he will comment on the present Libyan  turmoil, as well as the overall unrest in several Middle East countries. 

Time: 12:00 - 1:30 p.m. (lunch is included)
